Many banks have introduced mobile banking as an application installable on mobile phones to enable people carry out their banking transactions without necessarily physically visiting a bank branch. Mobile banking apps offered by most Nigerian banks can be installed on most phones and can be installed whether the mobile phone owner has an account with the bank or even if the he or she does not have. Agents appointed by the bank, can usually act as mini-banks where people who have a mobile banking app installed on their phones can go to withdraw and deposit funds that will be transferred directly to their phones.

Firstmonie-by First Bank

FirstMonie is prompted by First Bank which describes it as “an innovative product that enables customers to access financial and other value added services through their mobile phones.” Users of Firstmonie can send and receive money, pay bills, buy Airtime and lots more with their Mobile phones without a bank account. The mobile phone number serves as the account number. With Firstmonie, users can also send money to those without Firstmonie installed on their phones or even those without a First Bank account. U-Mobile by UBA

U-Mobile is another mobile banking application promoted by United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc. Tagged “Bank on the Go” by UBA, U-Mobile users must however have a savings a current account with UBA in order to install and use U-Mobile. Users can also link U-Mobile to UBA’s Prepaid card, which be obtained from UBA. Only java enabled phones will accept a U-Mobile installation.

With U-Mobile, users can check the balance on their accounts, generate statements showing their last five transactions, carry out inter and intra-bank transfers, pay bills and top up air-time. StanBic IBTC Mobile Money

Stabic IBTC describes its Mobile Money application as a mobile wallet with which you can receive salary payments, buy airtime, make one-on-one money transfers, pay for goods and pay bills. It is a unique 3-digit installation number “*909#” which can be used to install it on most phones. Users can do cash deposits and withdrawals through Stanbic IBTC Mobile Money agents all over the country, transfer money to anyone – both Stanbic IBTC *909# Mobile Money subscribers and non-subscribers, and link it to a Stanbic IBTC issued debit card. eaZymoney by Zenith Bank

eaZymoney is promoted by Zenith Bank. It is a mobile banking application that can be used by anyone whether the person has a bank account or not with Zenith Bank. It turns your phone into a mobile wallet that allows you to carry out your banking transactions from anywhere. It also has a unique 3-digit identification number *966# which can be used to access and install it on a phone. It is also available on the popular app stores.
